MCCAMEY McCamey Independent School District trustees have unanimously voted to hire Donny Wiley as district superintendent.
Wiley takes over July 1, McCamey board trustee David Adler said, adding that the board named Wiley on Monday.
Current superintendent Jerry Stinson an-nounced his retirement earlier this school year, Adler said, noting Stinson plans to finish out the 2007-’08 school year.
Wiley, the McCamey High principal, served as the Gordon Independent School District superin-tendent from 2003-’05 before coming to McCamey in 2005.
Gordon ISD is about 25 miles north of Stephen-ville, Wiley said.
Prior to serving at Gordon ISD, Wiley was the high school principal in Ozona from 1997 to 2003.
Adler said Wiley’s educational background was a plus for him as a McCamey superintendent can-didate, adding that Wiley helped the high school reach a recognized rating recently.
“His programs are working,” Adler said.
In his interviews, Wiley told board trustees he plans for added career-focused curricula for stu-dents, such as welding courses, Adler said.
“That’s something that I think a small commu-nity needs,” he said.
Wiley, who will run the 1A school district of 460 students, said he’s eager to work with the entire district and continue Stinson’s accomplishments like district financial stability and ensuring com-petitive pay and benefits for teachers.
“The previous superintendent has done a great job of building this up,” Wiley said. “I’m looking forward to just continuing his good deeds and good works.”
