Governor names six to Texas Low Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Compact Commission

AUSTIN Gov. Rick Perry appointed six members to the Texas Low Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Compact Commission on Tuesday for six-year terms, according to a news release Friday.

This is part of the Texas-Vermont Compact created in accordance with Senate Bill 1206 in the 73rd Legislature. The compact insures the management and disposal of low-level radioactive waste while maintaining a priority to the health, safety and welfare of citizens, according to the Governor's Press Office.

Mike Ford, a program manager with B&W Pantex, LLX; John White, a radiation safety officer with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas; Andrews County Judge Richard Dolgener; Bob Gregory, the president of the Texas Disposal System; Kenneth L. Peddicord, Ph.D., director of Texas Engineering Experiment Station and vice chancellor for Research and Federal Relations at Texas A&M University System; and Robert C. Wilson, a partner with Jackson, Sjoberg, McCarthy & Wilson, L.L.P. make up the commission.

Andrews County Judge Richard Dolgener said that the disposal facility would generate significant new revenue for Andrews County and the state of Texas.

"As with all new undertakings, it is important that we get it right the first time. I look forward to working with my fellow commissioners, with state officials and with the private sector to make sure the Texas-Vermont Compact responsibly fulfills its objectives and benefits the residents of Andrews County and our state," Dolgener said.
