WARD COUNTY A Ward County sheriff’s deputy was recovering after a minor accident investigation turned into a foot pursuit that ended up wounding him and the man he was going after, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department.

Deputy Donnie Jowers began chasing 22-year-old Thomas Miguel Garcia after Garcia ran from his car after a minor accident shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday. The release did not indicate where in Ward County the accident was or how Garcia and Jowers were injured.

After a short foot chase, Garcia was caught and taken to Ward Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and then taken to the county jail, the release stated.

Garcia was charged with driving while his license was invalid, a class B misdemeanor, and for evading arrest or detention, a state jail felony. He posted bonds totaling $9,000.

Jowers was also taken to Ward Memorial for minor injuries and had since been released.
