MIDLAND The Soldiers of Today and Yesterday will kick off the opening of its first chapter in Midland with a gathering of 90 veterans from Iraq, organizer Johnnie Lee Qualls said.

The party, open to the public, will take place today from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 1009 Denton St. It will include barbecued food and country-western entertainment.

Qualls claimed his non-profit group, which has been active for a few months, gathered more than 100 wheelchairs for disabled veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom who lost their legs in combat, and they also aim to provide the veterans with financial assistance with the help of Veterans Affairs.
