Some vaccine still available
In accordance with state law, students younger than 30 registering for spring classes at Odessa College must show proof of receiving the meningitis vaccine at least 10 days prior to the start of classes on Jan. 17.
However, students who attended Odessa College, or any Texas college or university, in fall 2011 semester would have already had to have the vaccine and do not have to receive another. Proof of the vaccine administered in the acceptable form is required prior to registration.
According to Odessa College officials, acceptable forms of vaccine proof include: a signature from a physician indicating the month, day and year the vaccine was given, an official vaccine record from the a state or local authority, or an official record from another school official. Other colleges may have different requirements.
When going to have the immunization administered remember to bring identification, insurance if possible, shot records and record of student enrollment in the college. Due to the state law the vaccine’s availability has lowered at local pharmacies, however, it is still available at seven Odessa locations.
