Updates on area blazes

The following is un update on area wildfires from the Texas Forest Service:

Pecos County's Huckaby Fire: 98,200 acres, 40 miles east of Fort Stockton off Gray Ranch Road. Fire was 100 percent contained at 6 p.m. Wednesday. 

Presidio County's Fletcher Fire: 520 acres, 13 miles southwest of Marfa. A ranch complex is located a mile east of the fire. The fire was declared contained at 9 p.m. Tuesday and 100 percent controlled at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Kleberg County's Landfill Fire: 10 acres. This fire was detected at 2 p.m. today. Resources are three dozers and a strike team leader. Texas Forest Service firefighters have left fire, and it's been turned over to Kingsville Solid Waste.

Schleicher County's Matthews Fire: 702 acres, 5 miles south of Eldorado. No structures are threatened. Fire was responded to by Texas Forest Service at 3 p.m. Wednesday with three dozers, three engines, a task force leader and an air attack aircraft. The fire crossed Highway 277; however, the local volunteer departments have made good progress in knocking down the front of fire. Location is 5 miles south of Eldorado. Fire cause was a cutting torch. It's estimated this fire will be controlled at 6 p.m. today.

Mason County's James River Road Fire: 160 acres. The fire is estimated at 40 percent contained. Estimated control time will be at 6 p.m. today.

Kerr County's Bias Springs Road Fire: 800 acres, three miles long. Multiple structures were threatened. This fire is estimated to be 60 percent contained. Two- to three homes were evacuated when the fire first happened. One hunting cabin was lost, one shed, one barn, and 300 bales of hay. Four dozers are on the fire currently.
