Fire victims update

Boy discharged from Lubbock hospital

An Odessa boy was released from a Lubbock hospital Thursday while his sister is still recovering from burns and smoke inhalation from a New Year’s Day apartment fire.

A nurse in the pediatrics intensive-care unit said Rowdy Redmon, 11, was discharged after 8 p.m.

The boy was listed in satisfactory condition early Thursday before his release.

Rowdy was moved from the hospital’s burn unit earlier this week to the pediatrics intensive-care unit.

Nicole Redmon, 8, remained in critical condition with burns covering 20 percent of her body. She hasn’t been moved from the University Medical Center burn unit.

Rowdy and Nicole, as well as their parents were trapped in their second-story apartment at the Sunset Apartments complex fire.

Firefighters rescued the Redmons through a shattered-glass bedroom window. Both children, students at Odessa’s Barbara Jordan Elementary, collapsed at the scene and were flown to Lubbock for healthcare.

The parents, Mike and Dawn, spent time in Medical Center Hospital in Odessa before reuniting with their children in Lubbock.

Efforts to reach the Redmons on Thursday were unsuccessful.
