Jones Bros. Dirt and Paving Contractors submitted the low bids for two major new highway projects in Midland County during the regular Texas Department of Transportation letting in Austin, according to TxDOT reports.

The contractor was the lowest among four bidders with a $10.3 million bid to build 10 miles of the nearly 16 miles of new highway that will connect Highway 349 north of Midland and FM 1788 north of Midland International Airport - creating a new reliever route for north- and southbound commercial traffic around northwest Midland, a news release said.

Jones Bros. also submitted the low bid for a $3.5 million extension of Holiday Hill Road in Midland from Briarwood to an interchange with the Reliever Route.

Both bids came in well under TxDOT's engineering estimates for the projects. Both contracts are expected to be awarded by the Texas Transportation Commission when the Commission meets April 24 in Austin, the news release said.
