DPS squad car smashed in accident

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

A Department of Public Safety trooper’s squad car was smashed by a truck while investigating another crash Saturday morning on Interstate 20 in Odessa, DPS communications operator Sandra Pacheco said.

Neither DPS trooper Hunter Lewis, the trucker or anyone involved in the first accident were injured after the 10:30 a.m. crash.

The trooper’s squad car was parked in an outside lane with its emergency lights on blocking traffic from another accident, though Pacheco said the report she had didn’t indicate whether it was in the eastbound or westbound lanes. A truck suddenly stopped to avoid colliding into the accident scene, and a second truck behind that one swerved around the truck to avoid a collision and instead collided with the squad car.
