ECHD approves taxation of goods in transit

Ector County Hospital District board members began the dreary Monday morning with a special meeting regarding taxation of goods in transit.

ECHD Executive Committee members President David Dunn, Vice President Judy Hayes and Virgil Trower approved the reauthorization of the taxation of goods in transit under section 11.253 of the Texas Tax Code.

The Texas Legislature added a newly defined subsection to Section 11.253, which provides a local option to tax otherwise exempt goods in transit that is goods-in-transit personal property.

“If we don’t pass the resolution, they won’t be taxed,” Medical Center Hospital Chief Financial Officer Robert Abernethy said.

Hospital Attorney Richard Buck said the resolution is a continuation of the tax.

The hospital district joins the Odessa City Council, Ector County Independent School District, Odessa College and Ector County Commissioners in reauthorizing the tax.
