[NR] Three Odessa intersections to get new traffic lights

42nd Street and Dawn Avenue project is first on list

Texas Department of Transportaton

ODESSA Workers with Willis Electric will start working Monday to upgrade the traffic light at 42nd Street and Dawn Avenue, but the work won’t force any road closures until the week of Dec. 19 – after Permian High School lets out for the Christmas Break.

Motorists on 42nd Street will see some single lane closures the week of Dec. 12 as Willis Electric employees start drilling holes for signal light foundations. Access to the high school and Dawn Avenue will be left intact during this time.

That changes once school lets out. Dawn Avenue will be closed to through traffic while the traffic lights are installed. Dawn will be closed at Fernwood Street to the north and Melody Lane to the south.

During signal installation the week of Dec. 19, motorists on 42nd Street will see more lane closures, but the intersection is not scheduled to be closed at any time. The traffic signal is scheduled to be operational before school starts again on Jan. 2.

The traffic light at Dawn Avenue and 42nd Street is one of three projects Willis Electric is doing in Ector County for the Texas Department of Transportation. The contract was awarded on a bid of $354,773.60.

The other two projects are:

  • An upgrade to the traffic signal light at the Grant Avenue (Highway 385) and Second Street (Business Interstate 20) intersection.
  • An intersection ahead sign and flashing lights on a stop sign at Yukon Road at West Loop 338.

Motorists are asked to use extreme caution in work zones. Please obey all warning signs and pay attention to any flag crew members who may be in the area.
