Perry condemns threats

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Gov. Rick Perry, a vociferous critic of the federal health care overhaul, says some of the overheated rhetoric against it has gone too far.

He told reporters Thursday that, "Once you cross the line of passionate to threatening, then you've got problems."

The conservative Republican governor says he was troubled by reports that members of Congress had faced threats and obscenity-laced tirades from opponents of the health legislation.

In his words, "I don't care which side of the debate you're on. If these remarks are as caustic as they've been reported, they're inappropriate."

Perry says he welcomed some of the changes in the bill but that "the bad outweighs the good."
