KBST-FM 95.7 News Director Mike Henry of Big Spring was presented with the 2009 Frank M. Adams Media Award July 2 at the Texas Community MHMR Centers Board and Staff Training Conference in Fort Worth. Henry was nominated by West Texas Centers for MHMR Community Relations Director Amy Vidal who attended the awards ceremony along with West Texas Centers for MHMR Chief Executive Officer Shelley Smith, far left, and West Texas Centers for MHMR Board of Trustees member Borden County Judge Van York. The award is presented annually to a news media representative who conveys a professional level of awareness to the mission of the Texas Council of Community MHMR Centers. The Texas Council is a statewide organization through which the 39 community MHMR centers work together as a public system serving Texans with mental illness, developmental disabilities, chemical dependency and early childhood intervention. The Texas Council accepts nominations for awards in three categories: individual, community and media. The awards are named in honor of Adams who was a founding member of the Texas Council and a longtime member of the Board of Trustees of the Southeast Texas MHMR Center now known as Spindletop MHMR Services.
