Motorcyclist dies in collision with tanker truck
HOBBS, N.M. Ismael De La Rosa, of Artesia, N.M., died at the scene of a two-vehicle collision about 4:30 p.m. Saturday on State Highway 529 and County Road 126, west of Hobbs, N.M.
According to a news release, New Mexico State Police responded to the scene and determined that a 1990 Peterbilt tanker truck belonging to Crain Hot Oil Service, of Lovington, N.M., and a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle driven by 51-year-old De La Rosa collided when truck driver 35-year-old Fidel Martinez, of Hobbs, tried to turn left onto County Road 126 in front of the motorcycle. The motorcycle collided into the right side of the truck.
De La Rosa was pronounced dead at the scene by a deputy medical investigator from the State Office of the Medical Investigator. Martinez wasn't injured in the accident.
New Mexico State Police ruled out alcohol as a contributing factor to the crash, according to the release.
Martinez was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, and De La Rosa was wearing a helmet.
