UPDATE: The Ector County Sheriff's Office stated in a news release Wednesday that skeletal remains found Friday in a field North of Trunk Street have been determined to be an animal.
The bones had been sent to the University Of North Texas in Denton for further analysis.
Authorities are still waiting to hear whether some recently found partial skeletal remains are human or animal, Ector County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Gary Duesler said.
The remains were found by some oilfield workers who came upon them at about 3:30 p.m. Friday in 6300 block of Trunk Street, Gary Duesler said.
The workers were “walking the field” when they came upon the remains, Duesler said.
“This is not connected to any known case,” Duesler said.
The remains were sent to the University of North Texas in Denton for further examination.
When asked about how long it would take to identify the remains’ species, University of North Texas’s Gil King said that, according to their policy, they would only be releasing information to the Ector County Sheriff’s Office.
