Pickup collides with three parked vehicles

Judy Sinks said her Jeep was almost paid off, her husband Tom was retiring next year and they were planning to do some traveling with their RV soon after Tom's retirement.

Then a Chevrolet Silverado pickup literally crashed those plans and almost claimed their house in the 2500 block of Cumberland Road on Friday evening after it crashed a stop sign pole and then smashed both of those vehicles and a Dodge Ram 350. The impact shoved the RV within inches of their home and ripped out an air conditioner, Odessa Police officer John Sikes said.

Sikes said the driver and a passenger in the Silverado, a Heap Equipment company pickup, were both taken to Medical Center Hospital with minor injuries after the crash, which took place at approximately 7:45 p.m. Friday. Even though police on scene did not identify either passenger, a Heap employee identified the driver as Kevin Gary, who was listed in stable condition.

According to Sikes, the Silverado failed to control its speed and failed to yield to the stop sign on Cumberland and then crashed into the stop sign as it headed north on Cumberland Road, then collided with the Jeep, the RV and another SUV parked in Sinks' front yard.

The accident was still under investigation, Sikes said.

Judy Sinks said she was sitting in her room and her husband was in the living room when "it sounded like a bomb went off."

She said she lost another car to people speeding on East 25th Street 10 years ago, so she parked everything on her yard, but she was familiar with the sound and figured her Ram was hit, but didn't expect every one of her vehicles and her air conditioner would have been struck as well.

"You just get stuff paid for retirement and some... takes it out," she muttered. "You just want to give up and quit."

Attempts to reach the owner of Heap Equipment were not immediately successful Friday evening.
