    Medics sent to refinery

BIG SPRING The Howard County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported explosion at the Alon plant outside of Big Spring on Monday, a dispatcher said.

Medics were sent to the oil refinery, the same plant that had a major explosion in February 2008. However, sheriff deputies did not enter the plant and had not started an investigation as of 10:15 p.m. Monday. The dispatcher referred to a sergeant for further details, but the sergeant did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

The Alon USA office in Dallas was closed Monday evening and a spokesperson could not be reached.
