South Odessa stabbing sends one to hospital
Comments 0 | Recommend 0J’s Place’s grand opening on Odessa’s southside was marred after a fight involving 17 people ended with one of them getting stabbed early Friday.
A police report stated Wesland Adame Galindo suffered internal bleeding Friday after getting jabbed in the stomach at 12:24 a.m. at 509 W. Clements St. He was listed in stable condition Friday at Medical Center Hospital.
Bartender and J’s Place manager Michelle Del Bosque said an argument between three men worsened when one of them brought in 14 others into the bar to go after the two he was arguing with, but she said the stabbing actually took place a few blocks away near Clements and South Crane Avenue.
“They just started in here and my husband chased them off,” Del Bosque said.
Attempts to reach the sergeants on duty at the Odessa Police Department were not successful Friday. City public information officer Andrea Goodson said she was looking into the assault but did not provide any information and did not return subsequent calls.
Del Bosque said one of the men involved in the fight was acting “nasty” with her husband, J’s Place owner Jaime Del Bosque, and Jamie told the man to leave. Another patron yelled at the man and told him to respect the owner, and Michelle said this started the argument. The man that was being disrespectful with Jaime left the bar but then came back with a group of other men who then chased down the two that yelled at him. Michelle said Jaime called the police as this went on, at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday.
As Jaime called the police, Michelle Del Bosque recalled hearing a lot of trucks running off and tires screeching. She believed they were trying to run the two men over and she saw the trucks out the door swerving over the street.
Jaime Del Bosque said a short while later, the police came to his bar and told him someone was stabbed in that fight, and from there they taped off the bar as a crime scene.
Michelle Del Bosque said they had planned to hold their grand opening Friday. Pots, cooking equipment and huge bags of tortilla chips were being brought into the bar for the occasion, but after the morning’s fight, they’re also bringing in a security guard.
“People are supposed to drink, have a good time, not fight and stab and try to kill each other,” she said.
