    Trustees agenda

The Ector County Independent School District’s Board of Trustees has a list of back-to-school considerations to make at this month’s regular meeting Tuesday, including a look at the district’s approved weighted classes for UIL eligibility, budget changes and the review of its agreements with several outside agencies.

Financially, the largest consideration on the board’s agenda is the possible acceptance of about $4.5 million in federal stimulus money to apply to its special education programs. If accepted, the money, which is earmarked specifically for special education students, would go toward the purchase of about $3 million worth of technology, including 54 mobile netbooks and 12 Nintendo Wii video game consoles.

The additional funds would go toward educational materials and continued teacher training. The board also is slated to review the district’s policy concerning compensation time for hourly employees, as well as the routine
consideration of amendments to the year’s budget.

Financial fluctuations in state funding and expenses has left the district with a about $1.7 million more than it had anticipated, according to ECISD memos.

Also, seven members of the Tri-Ethnic Committee have terms expiring in the near future, so the board will be asked to take action on the reappointment or replacement of those individuals.

After Tuesday’s meeting, ECISD attorneys will update the board in a closed session to discuss the district’s ongoing desegregation case with CRUCIAL.

On Wednesday, the board is scheduled to meet again for a workshop to address its options concerning the recent changes to state curriculum standards requiring a certain amount of various electives for graduation.

Other items on the board’s agenda for Tuesday include:
    >> Consideration of 2009 Ector County Appraisal roll.
    >> ECISD legal policy changes to coincide with state recommendations.
    >> Approving a timeline for the evaluations of district employees, as well
    the approval of their appraisers.
    >> Hear a school construction report.
    >> Request for the approval of an interagency agreement with the Houston
Independent School district regarding Medicaid reimbursement.
    >> Request for approval to dispose of 41 obsolete air conditioning units.
    >> Request for approval of an agreement with the School Health and Related
    Services Program.
    >> Hear a summer school report.
    >> Hear financial Reports.
The board’s regular board meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday
in the Board Room of the ECISD Administration building.
The special curriculum workshop is scheduled to begin at noon Wednesday in
Conference Room A&B of the Administration building.
