    Sales tax receipts rise

    October sales tax returns are up in Odessa, but not quite as much as last month.

    The city received a sales tax check for $2,033.757.37, up 12.79 percent from October 2007. However that's below the September revenue of $2,138,761.57, which was a 19.54 percent increase over September 2007.

    Of the sales tax revenue, the city received $1,627,005.90, while the Odessa Development Corp. gets $406,751.47.

    Year to date, sales tax revenues are up 21.53 percent over the budgeted amount for the fiscal year. The sales tax revenues were expected to be $19,191,000.

    The Ector County Hospital District brought in $1,988,351.59 in October, a 17.13 percent increase over last year at this time.

    In area cities, 17 of 23 communities saw increases in sales tax returns from October 2007. Last month, the number was 21 of 23 cities.

    October sales tax collections are based on August sales.

    >> Marfa $18,945.11, up 17.3 percent.

    >> McCamey $55,768.34, up 73.7 percent.

    >> Midland $3,093,763.14, up 13.3 percent..

    >> Monahans $153,674.90, up 39.2 percent.

    >> Pecos $144,149.50, down 11.6 percent.

    >> Presidio $28,565.45, up 3.2 percent.

    >> Pyote $2,230.14, up 4.1 percent.

    >> Rankin $3,970.40, down 44.6 percent.

    >> Seminole $102,108.06, up 17.9 percent.

    >> Stanton $31,916.82, up 18.2 percent.

    >> Toyah $831.22, down 60 percent.

    >> Wickett $13,298.21, down 21.9 percent.

    >> Wink $14,882.20, up 90.5 percent.
