Fugitive Unit to join statewide warrant round up
The Texas Attorney General’s Fugitive Unit will be one of more than 260 Texas law enforcement agencies participating in the sixth annual Great Texas Warrant Round Up on Feb. 25, a news release stated.
Anyone with outstanding warrants for their arrest who don’t want to be arrested for outstanding municipal or justice arrest warrants are encouraged to contact local law enforcement, the release stated.
The round up targets people in Texas with outstanding warrants for their arrest based on their failure to pay fines for traffic tickets and other misdemeanor crimes and they can be arrested at any location, the release stated.
Notices have been mailed to these people from municipal courts and justices of the peace encouraging them to pay their fines and resolve their cases before they are arrested, the release stated.
After defendants make the required payment and settle their case before the roundup, the Department of Public Safety will clear holds on driver’s licenses within seven to 10 business days.
