Man drives off Highway 191

Odessa police closed northbound lanes of Faudree Road, Monday afternoon, after a vehicle drove off Highway 191 and landed on the road below.

Midlander Daniel Sawyer, 20, was the driver of the white 1997 Lexus ES300. He was taken to Medical Center Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Corp. Gabriel Hernandez said the Lexus had been traveling west on Highway 191 when it went off the roadway for an unknown reason about 12:20 p.m.

The vehicle landed on the grassy roadside below, leaving a large indent in the ground, and rolled 30 feet to an upright stop in Faudree Road.

“He went between the guard rails and tried to correct it — he went airborne,” Hernandez said.

Officials said he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was ejected during the roll.
