City reaps large sales tax return

August's sales tax returns are close to a record in Odessa. The city is expecting a return of $2,527,614.61 - that's just $66,016.24 behind the record of $2,593,630.85 set in February this year, according to the state comptroller's website.

The city also broke $2.3 million in May 2008 as well as in February 2007.

Of this month's return of $2,527,614.61 - which is based on sales taxes collected in June - the city gets $2,022,091.69 and the Odessa Development Corp. gets $505,522.92.

This month's return is 20.16 percent higher than the $2,103,434.85 returned in August 2007.

Meanwhile, the Ector County Hospital District is expecting August gold, as well. It's looking at a return of $2,220,018.31, about 19.43 percent greater than the $1,858,817.84 collected this time last year.
