ECISD prepares to release TAKS scores

ECISD officials have projected their campuses will meet the state standards when they announce the final spring TAKS results Thursday.

Officials plan to address the public and the media at 2 p.m. Thursday in a news conference to detail the district's Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills scores.

ECISD Communications Director Mike Adkins said the secondary campuses aren't anticipated as being academically unacceptable.

"We don't think so right now. Part of it's projecting what might happen," Adkins said.

He said the accountability ratings from the Texas Education Agency aren't expected to come out until August.

The statewide TAKS results could be released at the latest by early June.

And a change this year from years past is that one of the special education TAKS test versions - TAKS Accommodated - now is included with the passing percentages the school districts receive from the TEA.

However, Adkins said, the TAKS Accommodated scores will be removed by TEA before the accountability ratings are expected.

ECISD Superintendent Hector Mendez had said publicly on many occasions that the district could be named academically unacceptable along with all its secondary campuses if no assistance was given to the students.

"All of those projections were if nothing changes," Adkins said. "It was if all the scores stay the same."

Adkins said Mendez put into place a short-term intervention plan with the help of his leadership team and campus principals to work on meeting student needs in the spring semester.
