Scam warning

Residents in West Odessa are reporting that someone's contacting horse owners in the area and informing them that an outbreak of strangles - an infectious, transmissible disease in horses - is occurring at a massive rate and veterinarians have a shortage of immunizations to treat diseased horses.

The caller then offers to vaccinate their horses for $14 to $15 per horse.

Odessa police animal control and veterinarians in the community wanted to warn horse owners that this is a scam and the information is not true.
