NOMAD program
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The McCamey Ministerial Alliance is accepting donations for this year's NOMAD program, which will bring retired skilled laborers to the city March 16 to help local residents check those household projects off their to-do list.
The Rev. Earl Richardson, a retired pastor in McCamey with the ministerial alliance, said the program for the most part already has chosen the program's 2009 recipients, but donations of money and supplies are always welcome.
The NOMAD program, which stand for "Nomads on a Mission in Divine Service," brings retired laborers from northern U.S. states down to West Texas each year to spend three weeks helping McCamey residents with various household projects, he said. The projects range from wheelchair ramps to bathroom remodeling.
"The people who are receiving the help are just residents in the community of McCamey who fall outside the dimensions required for public assistance," Richardson said. "They don't qualify for other programs. All we insist on is that they own their property."
To donate money or supplies to this year's NOMAD program, call Richardson at 432-652-8824.
The group is scheduled to arrive March 16.
