Lowe's is coming
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Bushman: Home improvement store will anchor MCM Plaza development
ICA’s chief executive officer John Bushman confirmed Wednesday that Lowe’s Home Improvement will be the anchor in MCM Plaza being constructed north of the Music City Mall.
Bushman first announced plans for development of the plaza in April 2006. Investment Corporation of America owns the mall and other developments.
“Of course,” Bushman said Wednesday. “We broke ground about a year ago, and it’s all just coming to a head.”
As recently as last week, Lowe’s corporate office had noted in a reply to the Odessa American that it wouldn’t confirm any plans on a store until it’s closed on property.
However, Odessa Planning Director Marwan Khoury said Wednesday that “Lowe’s is definitely coming.”
He said on Nov. 1, the property north of Music City Mall is to go before the Planning and Zoning Commission for zoning.
Then at city council meetings on Nov. 15 and Nov. 27 the zoning action is scheduled for council scrutiny, Khoury said.
“They will be a good anchor for MCM Plaza,” Bushman said.
He said Macy’s had shown interest in coming to Odessa earlier but nothing has been confirmed at this time.
Bushman’s plans for MCM Plaza envision a retail shopping complex offering about a million square feet of shopping space including the mall, MCM Plaza and other retailers in the area bounded by Tanglewood Lane on the west, 50th Street on the north, and JBS Parkway on the east.
