Midland plane crash

MIDLAND No one was injured following the crash of a private plane Sunday afternoon, but the number of people involved was unclear due to conflicting information.

A preliminary crash report from the Department of Public Safety and a City of Midland news release stated a Reliant Transportation single-engine Cirrus SR22 four-seat plane was landing at the Midland airpark from Lubbock when it went off the end of the runway between 12:53 p.m. and 12:56 p.m.

The DPS report by trooper Robert Manley stated 67-year-old pilot Morris Ray Hastings, of Midland, wasn’t injured and there was no one else involved, but a release from the city of Midland stated there were also two passengers uninjured in the crash. The Midland news release didn’t include the names of those in the plane, however.

The Midland news release stated that an investigation into the crash will be done by Lubbock Flight Standards District Offices.
