Think pink ... hair?

Odessa hairstylist Cari Hall is working on a trendy new hairdo that local women young and old are demanding - pink hair extensions.

Hall started offering pink hair extensions out of the J Bradley Salon in Odessa for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. She charges $10 an extension, and all of the proceeds go to breast cancer research.

She doesn't make a dime off of the pink hair, but she said she already raised $1,000 for breast cancer research this month.

"I got the idea because I know people and I have clients that have had breast cancer, so I thought it would be a really good idea," Hall said.

Hall said all kinds of people are coming in. She said older women came in with their oxygen tanks a few days ago.

The local schools don't allow the pink hair because it is a distraction, but she had a group of teachers from OHS come in and get some pink flair too. A group of high school girls are on schedule for Tuesday afternoon, she said.

Jennifer Temple said she went to the salon last Thursday to get her pink strip for hope to raise breast cancer awareness even though she doesn't personally know anyone who has ever had the cancer. She is a pre-k teacher's aide at Crossroads, and said her kiddos find it intriguing.

"I've had so many people coming in that I've had to order more hair," Hall said. She said she's had a lot of clients come in and get several pieces.

Hall hasn't had any male clients yet, but she said she has tried to get her husband and his friends in. He won't budge.

She attributes the influx of clients getting styled for a cause to word of mouth. She said she had a client from Texas Health Clinic come in the other day that brought seven friends with her, and they just keep coming.
