Dinner with Perry
In an effort to extend his time as the leader of the Lone Star State, Texas Gov. Rick Perry will be in Odessa next week for an invitation-only reception.
Hosting the event for the incumbent candidate are Sujani and Dr. J.B. Naidu, owners of the Naidu Clinic in downtown Odessa.
Admission to the event ranges from $250 to $5,000.
Perry campaign spokesman Mark Miner said the Naidus have hosted this event before and that they have been strong supporters and contributors to the twice-elected governor who assumed the role after George W. Bush resigned in 2001 before his presidential inauguration.
“He looks forward to coming to Odessa,” Miner said. “He appreciates the support of the doctor. Odessa is an important part of the state.”
According to Miner, Perry will be making other public appearances around the Permian Basin and in the Midland-Odessa area.
“We’re still looking at the details of the trip,” Miner said.
A “grassroots” meeting is planned with local supporters, but Miner did not know when or where that would take place.
Western National Bank owner Clay Wood is a host contributor for the event. Based on what Perry’s done previously, Wood said he’s donating to show his support to give Perry four more years in office.
“I just think he’s very progressive,” Wood said. “When you look around at the other states, they’re having trouble.”
