UPDATE: ECSO not investigating dead body

There were no signs of trauma or injuries discovered by county forensic death investigators, but a ruling has not been made in the cause of death of a person found dead near Penwell, authorities said.

The Ector County Sheriff's Office said they are not investigating the case as a criminal matter, and more information should be coming from the Ector County Medical Examiner's Office.

Paramedics responded to a medical call at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 20 near the Penwell exit, City of Odessa representative Andrea Goodson said.

Because paramedics can’t determine a death, other authorities must be involved to pronounce someone as deceased, Goodson said.

Forensic death invesigators Joey Ramirez and Casey Jenkins worked the case.

Earlier reports stating that the case had been turned over to a hospice were incorrect, and related to another death Tuesday.
