No smoking?

The Odessa Parks and Recreation Dept. has a second meeting on possible restrictions on smoking in city parks scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Salinas Park Community Building.
The first meeting took place Thursday evening, at which 14 people showed up to give their views. Parks director Steve Patton said the city’s parks and recreation advisory board recommended the meetings be held to gather citizen input on whether the city needs to restrict smoking in all, part or none of its parks.
The conversations started after complaints about smokers coming from Odessa Regional Medical Center to smoke at Progressive Park, Patton said. ORMC recently banned smoking anywhere on its property.
The city can restrict smoking only at Progressive Park or at other sites, Patton said.
“We can do anything we want,” he said. “It can be one spot. It can be all 36 sites.”
