TEA meets privately with parents
The Texas Education Agency met with parents of ESL/bilingual students on Wednesday night as part of their week-long visit in the Ector County Independent School District.
The TEA-led meeting was completely closed from the public, as well as school district employees and administrators. It was aimed at providing an opportunity for the parents to discuss the services of ESL/bilingual in ECISD.
Parents declined to speak with the Odessa American, both before and after the event.
The meeting also gave parents the chance to inform TEA represents any concerns they have with the program and offer feedback with ways they feel it can be improved.
The ESL/bilingual program in ECISD has received a stage 4 intervention rating, the lowest possible rating, and has been rated out of compliance by TEA for the past eight years.
TEA will leave the district on Friday afternoon, following an exit interview with Superintendent Hector Mendez. They are expected to give Mendez a general summary of the week with a formal assessment and report to follow in the next several months.
