Big Spring man faces murder charge

BIG SPRING Police arrested an 18-year-old man in Lamesa in connection to the May 30 fatal shooting of 16-year-old Justin Hernandez, the Big Spring Police Department reported in a news release.

Police and sheriff's deputies from Big Spring, Lamesa, Howard and Dawson counties found Christopher Olivarez, of Big Spring, at the Villa Apartments, 2300 S. Eighth St. in Lamesa. Acting on an arrest warrant, they arrested Olivarez without incident, the release stated.

Olivarez was taken to the Howard County jail, where he now sits on a murder charge in connection to the shooting. His bond has been set at $750,000.

According to an earlier release, Hernandez and 17-year-old Richard Pineda were both shot during a party May 30, following a fight. The release on the arrest did not mention whether Olivarez was connected to Pineda's shooting.
