Man pleads to enticement of minor
MIDLAND A 42-year-old Odessa faces a minimum of 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty Friday to convincing an underage girl via text messages to have sex with him, the U.S. attorney's office in Midland announced.
Sentencing before U.S. District Judge Robert A. Junell on the one count of persuasion and enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity has not been scheduled yet, the release stated.
Guy Liston Kidd, 311 N. Jackson Ave., was arrested Nov. 10 by Odessa police on a state charge of sexual assault of a child on accusations he had sex with a 16-year-old girl.
However his federal charges aren’t related to the reported intercourse but to electronic messages leading up to it that would have crossed state lines.
A news release from U.S. attorney’s office stated that in 2011, Kidd became friends with two 16-year-old Odessa girls. Kidd began regularly exchanging sexually explicit text messages with the girls by cell phone, the release stated.
The release stated Kidd admitted he texted one of the girls to solicit sex while knowing she was 16.
Kidd, who remains in federal custody, faces a statutory mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison, and up to life in prison. Kidd also faces a minimum of five years of supervised release upon completion of his prison term and will have to register as a sex offender.
Odessa police investigated the case and Assistant U.S. Attorney Austin M. Berry is prosecuting on behalf of the government.
