Storm causes minor problems
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A slow-moving storm dumped 1.58 inches of rain at Midland International Airport and caused minor damages in Odessa, National Weather Service meteorologist Alec Lyster said.
The NWS in Midland also reported winds of up to 62 mph at the airport and pea-sized hail in Crane.
Odessa Schlemeyer Field recorded only 0.61 inches of rainfall and no serious flooding was reported in the city, but Lyster said the storm was blamed for a downed powerline at the 4100 block of Clayton Place, along with a broken fence and a snapped 11-inch tree limb at the intersection of Newell Road and Alcove Court in east Odessa. Dispatchers at the Odessa Police Department said a total of three downed electric lines were reported Wednesday.
A few cars were stranded Wednesday afternoon at Business Interstate 20 and F.M. 1788 near Midland International Airport because of the flooding there.
For Thursday, Friday and Saturday, a slow-moving system will continue to drench the Permian Basin and flooding may become a problem, Lyster said. Odessa has a 40 percent chance of rain through Saturday.
