Live Nativity

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Sherwood Baptist Church has scheduled at walk-through live Nativity from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Dec. 5, but it’s not an ordinary live Nativity.

"Each scene has a reference to the Christmas story, starting with the Old Testament prophecies all the way to the birth itself," music minister Bryan Trotter said.

He said the Nativity will have five basic scenes: a prophecy from Isaiah, Mary learning about her pending birth from an angel, a marketplace scene where an inn-keeper tells Mary and Joseph there is no room, the shepherds talking about how the angels appeared to them and the final scene in the manger.

It’s the second year for the live Nativity, and he said he hopes it becomes an even bigger deal this time around.

"We had a couple hundred come out last year, and hopefully that will grow," he said.

The display goes all around the building and features a live donkey and some goats. The actors and actresses are all church volunteers.

Trotter said having different scenes provides perspective for the public.

"It fills out the story as opposed to just driving by to see a manger. You see the connections even hundreds of years before," he said.
