‘Dia de los Muertos' art work
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Odessa College Drawing I students have been invited to show their ‘Dia de los Muertos' art work at the Buddy Holly Art Center in Lubbock. Eighteen, ‘folk art,' scratchboard images, created by art students, pictured from left, Erica Eaton, Thomas Kerr, Lindsey LaRoque, Adrian Puertas, Edlin Roman, Brittni Vickrey and Sharrie Robinson, will be featured in the Holly Center's annual ‘Day of the Dead: Celabracion,' through Nov. 30. According to art professor Barry Phillips, the elder, the ‘D.O.D.' ritual honoring the deceased has been practiced at least 3,000 years by the indigenous peoples of Mexico. Instead of fearing death, pre-Hispanics viewed it as the continuation of life. To them, life was a dream and only in death did they awaken. Phillips' students are quite thrilled and honored by the invitation to exhibit at the nationally recognized Buddy Holly Art Center. For more information concerning the ‘Celabracion' contact Eddy Grigsby, Buddy Holly Center, 806-775-3569 or Phillips, 335-6785.
