Montealegre sentenced
MIDLAND David Alberto Montealegre, 49, was sentenced Thursday to four years in federal prison and fined $50,000 after admitting to bankruptcy fraud.
Montealegre pleaded guilty in May to defrauding the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in 2004 and 2005, using dozens of bank accounts concealing money and assets such as a home in Mexico. Montealegre is owner of Computron USA Inc.
In August, Montealegre also became involved in a civil suit with the City of La Crosse, Wis., over the domain names of nine city websites created by Montealegre during his time as director of information services for the city. The sites, such as sustainablelacrosse.org, are registered to Montealegre rather than the city.
Montealegre was arrested in January while still employed in La Crosse before being transported to the U.S. Attorney’s Western District of Texas for prosecution.
Montealegre was also a former web master for the city of Odessa before he moved to La Crosse.
