    Midland pursuit ends in Odessa

MIDLAND A Monday morning car chase in Midland involving a stolen car ended in Odessa with two men in police custody.

Midland public information officer Tina Jauz said two Midland men flagged down a woman at 7 a.m. Monday in the 4300 block of Tanner Drive. They then took her white Dodge 4x4 pickup.

The police report said the men traveled west on Illinois Street, north on Loop 250 and west on Highway 191. The driver of the stolen pickup rammed a Midland patrol car at the intersection of Faudree Road and Highway 191.

The driver then drove through an empty field where he was stopped by police.

The driver, Gary Michael Bell, 29, was arrested and charged with robbery, driving while intoxicated and evading in a motor vehicle. The passenger, 30-year-old Deric Lance Leavitt, was arrested and charged with public intoxication.

Bell, of Odessa, remained Monday in the Midland County Detention Center on a $500 bond. Leavitt, of Gardendale, remained in the detention center on a $345 bond.
