Jeremy's Walkway Memorial Runs

On Labor Day weekend, the Rev. David Johnson ‘Running Preacher’ and his wife Deborah, both pictured above, completed runs for the Jeremy Bader’s Memorial Walkway. Johnson ran in the Shoe 60k (37.2 miles) Trail Run in 10:24 near Austin. The run started at 7 p.m. Sept. 4 and Johnson finished at 5:24 a.m. Sept. 5. Deborah Johnson completed the Turtle Half-Marathon (13.1 miles) Sept. 6 and the Running Preacher completed the marathon (26.2 miles) in 4:59. At right, Jeremy Bader was paralyzed by a dirt bike accident on July 20, 2005. He died July 15, 2009, at the age of 20. Before his death, Bader, with the help of his family and rehab Doberman Zeus, established plans to raise Dobermans and help with animal causes. The Johnson’s run and donations raised will go to fulfill one of Bader’s goals — provide concrete floors for the kennels at the Humane Society of Odessa. Donations will also be used for ongoing needs and special projects in the future. To donate, mail check or money order to the Humane Society of Odessa, 7012 W. Mockingbird Lane, Odessa, Texas 79763, or donate online at www.odessahumanesociety.org/donation.htm.
