ECHD board member resigns
While the Ector County Hospital District redistricting plan was chosen, the board member for district 5 won’t be around to see the changes.
The board approved Ceretha Cartwright’s resignation during their monthly meeting Tuesday.
Since her daughter-in-law is getting her residency and her son is getting his master’s degree Cartwright said she and her husband decided to go help out with their grandson in San Diego.
“That’s all the reason (to move) one really needs is a beautiful grandson,” Cartwright said.
Although the temperate California weather doesn’t hurt, Cartwright said.
After working in health care administration, Cartwright said she wanted to give back to the community so she decided to join the board.
The first time she ran, Cartwright was beaten by Fred Martin in 2004.
The second time the deadline for running had passed, but since no one else showed interest in the position Cartwright said she wrote a letter expressing her interest and was accepted to the board in 2008.
Cartwright succeeded Fred Martin, who chose not to run for a second term.
And after serving on the board since May 2008, CEO Bill Webster said Cartwright gave her resignation on Aug. 15 saying she was moving to San Diego.
“She added a lot of value to the board,” board member Mary Thompson said.
Cartwright’s education and professional background gave her a more technical medical perspective, Thompson said.
The term for the district 5 board member runs until May 2012 so the board is looking for a new member, Webster said.
The board put an ad in the Odessa American on Wednesday and will accept interested applicants, Thompson said.
“We do need to appoint someone because it is a seven member board,” Thompson said, and if the board ever came to a vote of three people against three people there would be no one to break the tie.
“We’ll miss her service on the board,” Webster said.
