A 19-year-old Big Lake man was killed and a 14-year-old Crane boy lost his right arm in a rollover accident early Sunday in northern Crockett County, Department of Public Safety communications operator Les Hale said.
According to a report Hale had from Ozona DPS Trooper Ryan Dalton, Mark Anthony Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash was found at 6 a.m.
Christopher Arrista was taken to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, where a nursing supervisor said he suffered a "traumatic amputation" during the crash and was in critical condition in the afternoon.
A third passenger, 15-year-old Matthew Martinez, was taken to a hospital in Upton County with minor injuries. Hale said he was verbally told that Matthew is Mark's brother, and the report said they lived at the same address in Big Lake.
According to the report, Mark Martinez was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado south on State Highway 349 from Crane heading toward Iraan. About two miles south of the Crockett-Upton county line, the Silverado traveled off the shoulder, swerved back onto the road, skidded to the east and rolled over. The Silverado came to rest upright, facing north.
Hale said according to Dalton's report, driver Mark Martinez and Arrista, who was riding in the rear of the Silverado, were not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle. Matthew Mar-tinez was wearing a seat belt.
