Road crews spent Sunday afternoon cleaning a truckload of avocados that spilled into a ditch on Interstate 10 in Sutton County.
According to Ozona Department of Public Safety police communications operator Alfredo Leija, an eighteen-wheeler from Bakersfield, Calif., was traveling westbound on Interstate 10 near Sonora at about 10:15 Sunday morning. Leija said the driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel, causing the truck to leave the roadway and roll onto its passenger side. The truck then slid down a barrow ditch on the highway, spilling its load of avocados.
Leija said it was unknown whether anyone had been injured in the accident.
