Two teens arrested in Marfa break-ins, bodily fluids case
MARFA Two juveniles were arrested in connection to at least four break-ins between September and October in Marfa and the Presidio County sheriff said semen left at one of the scenes helped track them down.
The two juveniles, both 15 years old, were arrested Thursday and Presidio County Sheriff Danny Dominguez said they were transported to Midland. Dominguez said the two would be charged with burglary of a habitation, a second-degree felony.
A spokeswoman with the Midland Juvenile Justice Center said the center would not confirm if they were holding the two.
Working with the Texas Rangers, Sheriff Danny Dominguez said four break-ins were reported on Sept. 20, Sept. 21, Sept. 30 and Oct. 13.
At one of the scenes — an unknown body fluid, later confirmed to be semen — was found on items such as clothing, bed sheets and even on remote controls. Dominguez said of the four homes, two belonged to single women, one family and one couple.
The semen was sent to the Department of Public Safety Crime Lab and Dominguez said once the results came back, sheriff’s deputies questioned the juveniles.
“We picked them up and they fessed up to it,” Dominguez said.
Back in October, Marfa residents signed a petition urging the sheriff’s office to request help from the Texas Rangers. Dominguez said the mood of the residents in Marfa have been a positive one after the arrest.
“It feels great,” Dominguez said. “People are relieved.”
