Holiday bored?

Plenty of things going on in the Basin

Bored?

There are 36 days left until the New Year, and there’s plenty going on to keep you busy until then.

“Nov. 30 is our Holiday Glitz fashion show. The week of Dec. 10 to the 14, there’s an art show at the chamber,” Laura Stoner, with the Fort Stockton Chamber of Commerce, said. “Our Christmas parade will be Dec. 7.”

Those are just a few of the things going on in Fort Stockton, Stoner said.

Fort Stockton’s just one of many places in West Texas staying busy with holiday events leading up to New Year’s.

In Pecos, there’ll be a fireworks display to go along with a Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony on Nov. 27.

“This is the second year that the fireworks will happen — all choreographed to music and everything,” Linda Gholson, executive director of the Pecos Chamber of Commerce, said.

Farther east, residents of San Angelo are preparing for the popular light display along the river.

“(There are) more than a million lights along the water,” Pamela Miller, vice president of the convention bureau in San Angelo said. “It’s a driving tour and runs from Dec. 8 through the 31st.”

Many area towns have a different theme for their holiday parades.

“The Holiday’s New Mexico Style,” said Donna Cass of Carlsbad, N.M.

“A Family Christmas,” Stoner said.

And in Kermit?

“Christmas in Toyland,” Carolyn Langston receptionist to the Kermit Chamber of Commerce said.

So if you’re looking for things to keep the kids busy while they’re home for winter vacation, don’t worry, because there is plenty going on.

“All citizens and anyone from everywhere are invited to come,” Gholson said.
