SAN ANGELO A teacher with the San Angelo Independent School District, who was also a former Ector County juvenile probation officer, was indicted and accused of having a sexual relationship with a student.

Robert Harold Goetz, 45, of Christoval, was indicted on a charge of an improper relationship between an educator and a student, a second-degree felony.

A second-degree felony is punishable by two to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.

Goetz was released Tuesday on bond of $5,000 for that charge and $1,200 for two other charges, according to jail records.

According to the indictment, Goetz knowingly or intentionally engaged in sexual intercourse on July 4 with a female high school student.

The warrant for his arrest is closed to the public.

Efforts to contact Goetz by telephone were unsuccessful.

Goetz worked at Carver Learning Center, 301 W. Ninth St. in San Angelo, Superintendent Carol Ann Bonds said. He has been on administrative leave since Aug. 21 pending the investigation, she said. He has worked for the district since August 2004, Bonds said.

According to the indictment, the student involved was not attending Carver.

Lou Serrano, the director of juvenile services at the Ector County Youth Center, said Goetz worked as a probation officer there from February of 1987 to July 15, 1993.

The San Angelo Standard-Times and OA staff writer Doug Carman contributed to this report.
