Kid Fish coming up this weekend

Odessa's little anglers and their adult helpers are invited to the parks department and Wal-Mart Kid Fish event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Comanche Trails Park pond, 301 W. Interstate 20.

Admission is free.

Parks department special events coordinator Lisa Cline said the pond will be stocked with 1,100 pounds of catfish, and the kid with the heaviest catch will get a prize. There will be 1,000 free hot dogs, chips, drinks and snacks, and loaner fishing poles and free bait will be handed out while supplies last.

All adults are required to have a fishing license, and Cline is hoping they'll focus on helping kids instead of going for the big catch.

Cline said she's expecting more than 500 people to show.

"It's free fishing fun for the family," she said.
