Two taken to hospital in morning wreck

Two drivers were taken to the hospital Tuesday morning, after a T-bone collision that damaged four vehicles.

Amelia Cadena, 42, remained in stable condition at Medical Center Hospital on Tuesday afternoon and Eric Norris, 41, was released after being treated for his injuries.

Cadena's maroon Ford Tempo had been heading east on Third Street around 8:45 a.m. when it collided with Norris' white Chevrolet pickup headed north on West County Road, witnesses at the scene said.

The impact spun the Tempo around in the northbound lanes of West County Road and sent the truck into a parking lot of Hatfield and Company, where it struck a parked gold Lincoln Towncar and scratched a maroon Nissan Altima.

Odessa police officers diverted traffic while working the scene and gathering statements from witnesses.

John Morales, Altima owner and Hatfield employee, said the Chevy truck squeezed between a telephone pole and a sign before colliding with the other car. Morales' vehicle was parked in front of the store and became the truck's final stopping point and received the least amount of damage.

"I just sent the last payment off yesterday," he said.

Doty Brown, another Hatfield employee, said she heard the accident from her desk and rushed out to see the moving vehicles had barely missed her 2008 blue Chevrolet Equinox.

"It's brand new - I'm so glad they missed it," she said.

Cpl. Sherrie Carruth said Cadena was cited for running a stop sign, having no driver's license and no insurance.
