Crews continue to battle two blazes

Texas Forest Service crews continued to put out two West Texas blazes after another fire was extinguished Saturday.

D.L. Wilkerson, Texas Forest Service public information officer, said the J Bar Ranch fire burned 2,800 acres and is now 80 percent contained. The fire began at 8 p.m. Thursday night 20 miles north of Crane on County Road 1601.

Wilkerson said another fire in Crane County, the "McElroy Ranch Fire," was completely contained Saturday. The fire burned 1,200 acres.

Meanwhile, Texas Forest Service crews continued to work on the "Hughes Ranch Fire" in Jeff Davis County. The blaze, one mile south of the Marfa airport, was 75 percent contained and has burned 43,241 acres as of press time Saturday.
